Naturstig Bönhamn - always happy to come back
After again quite a few days of rain, we finally had a beautiful and sunny Sunday again. Of course, after a few outside chores at home, we had to go out and go for a short hike. This time we went back to Bönhamn, a picturesque little fishing village in the heart of Sweden’s High Coast (Höga Kusten). I had made blackcurrant gelée, goose- and raspberry jam, lingonberry jam and dried apple rings from the berries/fruits of our and our neighbour’s garden at home. The neighbours always spend all summer in their summer house near Bönhamn, so we thought as a thank-you for the loot we’d drop off a few jars for them. Going to walk the Naturstig was a logical choice :-)
Bönhamn has plenty of parking. You have to park at the entrance to the village, since there is no parking in the tiny village, other than the private driveways. We always go to the first carpark on the left - it is small, but it is free. The other two on the right are larger, and you are allowed to stay over night with your motorhome or caravan, but there is a fee (e.g., for a motorhome you pay SEK100/appr. $US 9).
We always walk through the village first, past the café/restaurant and to the guest jetty. The village is so beautiful, and there is plenty to see - from beautiful flowers, fish drying racks and cottages to the Gulf of Bothnia, sailing boats and islands.
From the guest jetty, we walked back a bit, and then followed the path to your left and around the harbour. Then, we climbed stairs up the hill and over rocks. When you turn around you are rewarded with a beautiful view over the village and harbour:
From here on, we just enjoyed the beautiful scenery of this short hike: Amazing views over the sea and islands, trails over rockfaces and through forests, and the warm autumn sun. It couldn’t be any more relaxing and enjoyable than that. And no hiccups this time ;-)
If you are in the area, don’t miss out on this one! The village and trail are just beautiful. And if you are here in summer, you can also take the boat over to Högbonden, a small island close by.
Of course, the trail info is also on this website, as always. Just click here :-)
